FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you're wondering about custom jewellery, our process, materials, and more — answered honestly by Roozbeh.
What makes your jewellery different from a regular jewellery store?
At ROOZ Jewellery, one person — Roozbeh — hand-fabricates every piece from raw material to finished object. There is no production line and no anonymous workshop. When you commission a custom piece, you work directly with the maker: the same hands that shape your ring are the ones you shake at the final appointment. That level of personal involvement is something large jewellery retailers simply cannot offer, and it means your piece carries a story that is genuinely yours, not a variation on something already in a display case.
Who is Roozbeh Rastegar?
Roozbeh Rastegar is the founder, designer, and sole maker behind ROOZ Jewellery — an award-winning Toronto jeweller who completed three years of training at George Brown College's School of Jewellery before founding his studio. His design philosophy is rooted in the idea that art should be wearable: that the objects we carry on our bodies can be as meaningful and as personal as anything hung on a gallery wall. His father is a painter, and that inheritance shapes how he works — each piece is approached as a sculptural problem, not a product brief. He is present in every step of every commission, which means the person you consult with is the same person who makes your ring.
What collections does ROOZ Jewellery offer?
Alongside custom engagement rings and wedding bands, ROOZ offers four collections: the Shards Collection (silver and bronze inspired by Iranian ceramic fragments, with natural stones and genuine leather), the Drop Collection (sterling silver and unique baroque pearls inspired by the fluidity of water), the Birthstone Collection (natural oval cabochon stones in organic silver or gold settings), and our core bespoke engagement ring work. Every piece is handmade in the same Toronto studio.
Custom Engagement Rings
How does the custom engagement ring process work?
It begins with a consultation — a conversation about your vision, your relationship, your aesthetic, and your budget. From there, Roozbeh develops design sketches and works with you to refine the concept until it feels exactly right. Once the design is confirmed, he hand-fabricates the ring in solid gold, setting your chosen stone with care. You're involved at every meaningful stage: approving the design, seeing progress, and finally receiving a piece that was made specifically for you. Most clients describe the process as collaborative and surprisingly personal — more like working with an artist than shopping in a store.
How long does a custom ring take to make?
Most custom engagement rings and wedding bands take between four and eight weeks from confirmed design to final delivery, depending on complexity. Pieces with intricate hand-fabrication, pavé settings, or bespoke stone sourcing may take a little longer. If you have a proposal or wedding date in mind, we strongly recommend reaching out at least three months in advance — this gives us unhurried time to create something truly considered, rather than rushed. Contact us early, and we'll work backwards from your timeline.
How much does a custom engagement ring cost?
Custom engagement rings at ROOZ Jewellery start at $3,000 CAD, with the final price depending on the metal weight, stone selection, and design complexity. There are no hidden fees or surprise markups — you'll know exactly what you're paying for and why. Our goal is to help you get the most meaningful piece your budget allows, so we encourage an honest conversation about price from the very first consultation.
Materials & Sourcing
What materials do you use?
We work primarily in solid gold — 10K, 14k, and 18k — sourced through ethical supply chains. For gemstones, we offer natural diamonds, Canadian diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, sapphires, and a range of coloured stones, all selected with traceability in mind. Our other collections explore sterling silver, bronze, natural leather, and organic stones. We don't use hollow metals, plated materials, or synthetic substitutes in our fine jewellery — what you receive is made to last generations.
How do I know my diamond or gemstone is ethically sourced?
We source our diamonds and gemstones through suppliers who adhere to the Kimberley Process and maintain conflict-free certification. For clients who want to go further, we offer Canadian diamonds with full mine-to-ring traceability, as well as lab-grown diamonds for those who prefer a zero-mining option. We're happy to walk you through the sourcing details for any stone you're considering — transparency is something we take seriously, not something we perform.
Can I bring in my own stone or existing jewellery to transform?
Absolutely — and this is one of our favourite kinds of projects. Whether you have a family heirloom you want reimagined, a loose stone that's been waiting for the right setting, or old jewellery you'd like to transform into something you'll actually wear, we can work with what you bring. Roozbeh has extensive experience in heirloom redesign and will assess your existing piece honestly, letting you know what's possible and what the process involves.

How do I get started?
The easiest first step is to book a free consultation through our website — there's no commitment and no pressure.
