My theme is Optical Illusion. Through this theme, I am trying to say that facts and reality are not always exposed to the audience on the initial viewing. In this collection, I used optical illusion to draw attention to the idea that we shouldn’t always accept what we see at first glance.
This ring is one of the pieces of the optical illusion collection. I used an advanced goldsmithing technique called Anticlastic rising. Through the hammer strokes, I forged and formed a triangular hollow shape that transitions from a 3-dimensional side to a flat side. The ring begins with a three-dimensional triangular pyramid which flows along the three-dimensional hallow triangular form transitioning to the flat side of the ring. The ring finishes with a flat side in which a triangle enameling piece is imitating the three-dimensional side of the ring.
For making such an intricate form, I had to make several prototypes out of brass and silver. The final piece though is made of 18K yellow gold.
