Fragment of a Lattice Vessel, Sterling Silver Pendant
Fragment of a Lattice Vessel, Sterling Silver Pendant
Somewhere, centuries ago, an artist drew a lattice of petals and leaves on a vessel, and nobody recorded the name. The name is gone, yet the pattern lives on in how we imagine a Persian garden. This handmade sterling silver pendant, from the Shards Collection by Rooz Jewellery in Toronto, is made to remember that maker.
As a child, Roozbeh walked ancient Iranian sites with a painter father and picked up pottery fragments so plentiful that nobody cared for them. To the young Roozbeh, they were treasures, with mastery and accuracy visible even in the broken pieces. This pendant began as a clay dish Roozbeh made and then broke. Roozbeh chose the fragment with the most potential and translated it into sterling silver. One half is smooth and polished. The other carries a lattice pattern of interlocking petal forms and tiny dots in relief, darkened by oxidation.
When you wear it, you support a local Toronto artist and carry a piece of art on your own body, which becomes your personal gallery. It is a lovely thing to be proud of.
It hangs from a hinged bail on a genuine leather cord, available in 18, 20, 22, 24, 28 or 30 inches at the same price. Choose your length when you order, and Roozbeh will send that exact length.
