This sterling silver garnet pendant carries a natural 7x9mm oval cabochon in deep, dark red, set in organic silver and hand fabricated by Roozbeh in Toronto, Canada. The word garnet comes from the Latin for pomegranate seed, and the stone's concentrated red does recall the fruit when light passes through the polished dome. As the January birthstone, it is a popular gift for a winter birthday, and at about 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale it is comfortable for regular wear. Rinse it in lukewarm water if it dulls. The silver around the stone is left deliberately irregular, with a rugged finish that makes each pendant slightly different from the next.
